Swachchh app turns out to be damp squib

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has gone on a publicity spree via radio ads asking people to keep the city clean. According to “Swachchh Delhi app”, one is supposed to click image of garbage dumps and send it to the app, but it seems that Delhi has evoked mixed response over the success of this mobile app.

Shubhash Arya, Mayor of the SDMC, said that despite the drive no development has been made so far. The app has lots of faults following which corporations are unable to address majority of complaints. As it requires proper mechanism, the Government must look after this. “Though we have been receiving complaints but here is no clarity about the location which is necessary to solve accordingly. The agency, which is forwarding complaints on behalf of the Government, is yet to mention whether complaint is related with garbage or solid waste. If area falls under unauthorised colony, it must be mentioned as the Government has to collect garbage and debris from such places,” added Arya.

The Delhi Government and civic bodies, in order to clean the city, had earlier settled their long fight after the intervention of the Union Urban Development (UD) Ministry and the former agreed to clean all debris/ solid waste while the civic bodies agreed to collect garbage.

In case of dispute both will follow the final decision of the UD Ministry. “It has been decided that the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi Government will clean all the debris in the entire city while municipal corporations, NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board will clear the garbage in their respective territorial jurisdictions,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had said earlier while launching the mobile app with the three Mayors.

Ravinder Gupta, Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, too claimed lack of cooperation from the Government while executing the programme. He said that despite its high-profile launch by the Government, no further communication has been made to run to run it properly. The Government is forwarding pictures with little details but agencies require more to address their complaints. “Earlier it was said that PWD, the Government department, will collect solid waste, debris but it was not revealed that how the department will execute the same. There is heaps of garbage lying in unauthorized parts and the Government has to collect it but no word has been spoken yet. The authorities has limited resources and cannot manage entire affair without support,” Gupta said.
