Days after the Swachchh Delhi App was launched by the City Government, three municipal agencies claimed that they are yet to get clear directions from the Government of how to implement the drive of making Delhi a cleaner city.
Till now, corporations have received 5,000 complaints about garbage lying in the Capital, said officials, adding that there is no clarity in the municipal agencies on how to deal with these complaints.
Also, the agencies have alleged lack of assistance from the Government at this stage.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and three municipal agencies had launched the Swachchh Delhi App on Monday and the drive will start from November 22 in its first phase and last till November 30.
The initiative has been taken by Delhi Government, Centre and three municipal corporations.
Currently, the App has flaws due to which agencies are unable to address most of the complaints, said officials.
“As it requires proper mechanism, the Government must look after this. Though we have been receiving complaints there is no clarity about the location which is very necessary for us. The agency, which is forwarding complaints on behalf of the Government, is yet to mention whether the complaint is related to garbage or solid waste. If the area falls under an unauthorised colony, it must be mentioned as the Government has to collect garbage and debris from such places,” said SDMC Mayor Subhash Arya. Also, the agencies have expressed their doubts over drive’s success, claiming that a complainant needs GPS- enabled android phone to register complaint while there is no surety that s/he would have the same. Additionally, complainant will have to download Swachchh App first.
North DMC Mayor Ravinder Gupta also claimed that the Delhi Government’s lack of cooperation is leading to problems in the implementation of the programme.
“Despite the high-profile launch by the Government, no further communication has been made to us to run it properly. The Government is forwarding pictures with little details. Agencies require more information to address complaints. Earlier it was said that the PWD, a Government department, will collect solid waste and debris but it was not revealed that how the department will execute it. The authorities have limited resources,” Gupta said.
