SUV owner uses GPS to shut off car engine, foils robbery attempt

Technology came to the help of an SUV owner as the Global Positioning System (GPS) device helped foil a kidnap and robbery attempt.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Kavi Nagar police station Inspector Ashok Shishodia said a gang of four robbers had overpowered driver Anil Kaushik at a marriage on Saturday night and made away with the vehicle after forcing him to duck inside.

The owner, SN Sharma, received a message on his mobile about the sudden movement of his car. He immediately turned off the ignition with the help of GPS device, police said.

Repeated attempts by the robbers to start the car engine went in vain and they were compelled to leave the SUV at the flyover.

An FIR has been registered at Indirapuram Police Station in this regard, the SHO added.
