Suspension of Sharma: BJP workers stage protest

Published on:

Delhi BJP workers on Friday protested near the Vidhan Sabha against suspension of party MlA OP Sharma for the entire Winter Session for his alleged sexist remark against AAP MlA Alka lamba, raising slogans against the AAP Government and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

BJP workers led by MP Ramesh Bidhuri were stopped while marching to the Vidhan Sabha by a large presence of police force near Vikas Bhawan. The agitated protesters tried to dismantle police barricade but were dispersed with the use of water cannon.

Bidhuri said, “Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has put forward AAP MlA Alka lamba to attack Sharma and she has followed it along with other woman MlAs of her party.” Saying that Sharma did not say anything as “alleged by AAP”, Bidhuri added, “He (Sharma) should be given a chance to explain what he said.”

“He did not use unparliamentary words and the party and its high command is with Sharma,” he added.

BJP national general secretary R P Singh said the protest by AAP MlAs was a “ploy” to derail the ongoing Assembly Session and “divert” attention from important issues.

Besides, Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Committee and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) also protested against Kejriwal outside Chandgiram Akhada, alleging that the Delhi Government has declared November 24 as Martyr’s day of Guru Teg Bahadur while Akal Takht has declared December 16 as Martyr’s day.
