The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested three associates of suspended Aam Aadmi councillor, Tahir Hussain in connection with the communal riots in North-east Delhi that took place on February 24.
The trio has been identified as Abid, a resident of Dayalpur, and Mohd Shahdab and Rashid Saifi, both from Nehru Vihar. According to senior police official, the trio was arrested by Crime Branch on Tuesday.
"The Abid, Shahdab and Rashid were seen by the eyewitnesses on the top floor of the building owned by Hussain on February 24, where police had earlier found petrol filled bottles, stones and some toxic substances. It is suspected that they were involved in pelting stones and throwing petrol filled bottles during the communal riots in North-east Delhi," said sources.
"The trio is also accused of being with Hussain on February 24. Their involvement in IB staffer Ankit Sharma will be ascertained after interrogation," the sources further said. The Crime Branch on Monday arrested Hussain's brother Shah Alam in connection with the riots. Three other people, who were sheltering Alam, were also arrested.
Hussain was arrested by Delhi Police last week after a court here dismissed his plea seeking to surrender before it in connection with the killing of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Ankit Sharma during the violence over the new citizenship law.
