Sunil confesses to raping 50 minors; no plaint yet

Sunil Rastogi,38,  a tailor by profession, from Uttarakhand had confessed that he had sexually assaulted over 50 minor girls during a period of 12 years. However, none of the victims and their families has come forward to lodge a complaint.

According to a senior police officer, they are facing problems in corroborating the place and time of the molestation committed by Rastogi in the absence of any formal complaint lodged by family members of minor girls.

As per the investigation, police said they have prepared a list of 50 cases in Delhi and three other cities in North India where Sunil allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl over a span of 12 years.

“Based on the interrogation of Sunil where he disclosed about the specifics of his crime date, time, place and the description of each victim, will be taken into account. Out of these cases, five cases are that of sexual assault and abduction of minor girls,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has received three complaints from the family of the victims who claimed that their wards were molested.

“We are seeking help from police of Rudrapur. He was arrested twice, once in 2013 and 2014.

“He was arrested under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC which allows police to arrest a person who is likely to commit a cognisable offence. This was done since the parents of the minor girls were not willing to file a formal complaint and pursue a case under the POCSO Act,” said police.

Sunil sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in Rudrapur in February last year. The recent cases registered in Delhi were in December 2016 and in January 12 this year, when he was out on bail in the Rudrapur case.

The officer said these incidents took place at four places — East Delhi, Rampur, Ghaziabad and Udham Singh Nagar. “We are trying to map these four geographical areas where these 50 cases have occured. Attempts were made under the jurisdiction of ten police stations- three each in Delhi and Ghaziabad and two each from  Rampur (Uttar Pradesh) and Udham Singh Nagar or/Rudrapur (Uttarakhand),” said the officer.
