The unfortunate death of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife has the potential of tarnishing the Minister’s political career, who is not new to controversies. Though the couple had issued a joint statement on Thursday that all is well in their marital paradise, the ugly end to the couple’s marriage suggests just the opposite. This comes after the ugly the unpleasant verbal spat between Pushkar and popular Pakistani columnist, Mehr Tarar, who she accused of ‘stalking her husband’ and ‘trying to break’ her marriage. However, Tarar on Friday expressed her shock over Pushkar’s mysterious death. “I am absolutely shocked,” Mehr Tarar said in a tweet. “This is too awful for words. So tragic, I don’t know what to say. Rest in peace, Sunanda.”
Earlier this week, Pushkar accused Tarar of pursuing her husband and threatened to divorce Tharoor over the alleged extra-marital affair. However, keeping her husband’s political career in mind, the couple decided to issue a joint statement stressing no problem in the marriage. The journalist denied the allegation, and publicly trashed Pushkar.
Former UN diplomat and a celebrated author Shashi Tharoor’s candidature from Thiruvananthapuram in 2009 had led to a huge controversy in Kerala.
The local Congress leaders were against an ‘outsider’ like Tharoor contesting from there and even questioned his fluency in Malayalam.
However, Tharoor took the political plunge and won the election. In a heart burn to many ardent aspirants, Congress President Sonia Gandhi impressed by his feat elevated him to the rank of a Minister of State for foreign affairs immediately.
Once his took charge, his stay at a five-star hotel in Delhi, created a huge controversy, especially due to the fact that Congress Party had launched an austerity drive.
