The sensational murder of Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) wife on Thursday put the Gurgaon Police in a fix. They are yet to figure out if it was homicide or suicide. She was found dead in the parade ground owned by the Gurgaon Police by children playing in the vicinity.
The recovery of the CJM's licensed pistol from spot has added a twist to the tale. Post-mortem examination of Geetanjali Garg (30) was inconclusive. Forensic experts suggested she could well have taken her own life or have been murdered since there were three bullet injuries in her abdomen, chest and below the chin. "We are still investigating the case from all angles and are waiting for gunpowder and fingerprint samples to confirm," said a policeman.
A 'paraffin test' (a method to determine who pulled the trigger is being conducted by forensic experts by examining gunpowder residue found on palm and wrist of the deceased) will be conducted to be sure it was Geetanjali who shot herself. If the test is negative, then the probe will be directed to identify the person who killed her.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of CrPC in Civil lines Police Station. "We are questioning the servants and neighbors to ascertain whether she was under duress. We have not recovered any suicide note from the CJM's official residence and are also quizzing CJM Ravneet Garg," said Alok Mittal, Commissioner of Gurgaon Police.
The victim used to go to the park in the evening. She is survived by her two daughters. Gurgaon Police lines is home to around 10,000 personnel, including Gurgaon Police Commissioner and some senior officials from Faridabad and Rewari.
