A Gwalior-based lawyer threw ink at Sahara India chief Subrata Roy on Tuesday morning as he was being taken to the Supreme Court. Manoj Sharma, who claimed to be an advocate from Gwalior, has not done such an act for the first time. He had earlier in 2011 hurled a slipper at Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi. Sharma came armed with ink and hurled it when Roy stepped out of his car and headed towards the court premises amid security personnel and a large number of mediapersons. Sharma had also thrashed a sub-divisional magistrate in Gwalior and has an attempt to murder case filed against him there.
He threw the ink and removed his shirt and started shouting “He is a thief and has stolen the money”. However, Delhi Police personnel were quick to pounce upon Sharma and took him into preventive custody and he was detained at the Tilak Marg police station. “We are contemplating under what Sections we can book him under. Otherwise he will be taken in preventive custody under Sections 106, 107 of CrPc,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) SBS Tyagi.
Sharma once had also got a fake death certificate made in the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2005-06 to prove high-levels of graft. “He claims that he was the Joint Secretary of Bar Association in Gwalior,” added the police officer. Meanwhile, Roy was sent to Tihar Jail where he will be housed in the civil cell. Tihar Jail’s spokesman Sunil Gupta said that Roy will be allowed to meet visitors only twice a week. “Unlike other jails, where prisoners are categorised under A, B or C category, we don’t have such special class. So he will be kept as an ordinary prisoner,” Gupta added. We have two complexes, one at Tihar and the other in Rohini. We have decided to keep him at Tihar complex where he will be dealt like any ordinary prisoner, he said.
“He will have to sleep on floor and have to eat jail food. Visitors will be allowed to meet him only twice a week and that too from the list of 10 people he will have to submit at the time of admission,” he said.
