A 24-year-old street vendor was found murdered with his throat slit and had multiple wounds all over his body at his rented room in South Delhi’s Pillanji village near Sarojini Nagar on Friday morning. Police said the unknown killers had gagged the man by putting clothes into his mouth before slitting his throat using a sharp weapon.

According to a senior police official, the deceased has been identified as Santosh Kumar, who used to sell hosiery items in Sarojini Nagar Market. The exact motive behind the murder could not be ascertained till late evening even as over a dozen people were being questioned by the local police. However, robbery angle was ruled out since everything in the vendor’s room was intact.

They are suspecting involvement of someone known to Kumar, as the killers had made a friendly entry into his room that is located on the fourth floor of a building in which over 100 tenants stay. Kumar’s cousin Sonu, who was sharing the room with him, is also under scanner while another tenant, who had called the police control room to report the crime, is also missing after the call, said police.

A senior police officer said the crime came to light around 5.45 am when Sonu came down to the room from the building terrace and found his cousin lying in a pool of blood on the bed. Sonu raised an alarm after which a tenant informed the police.
