'Stop recruitment of principals, teachers'

Published on:
The Delhi Government has sent notices to nine colleges of Delhi University warning them to stop recruitment of principals and teachers on a regular basis until the Government has nominated members to the governing bodies of these colleges. The 12 colleges, out of a total 28 colleges of the Delhi Government, are fully-funded by the Government while the remaining 16 colleges are partially funded
The Pioneer had earlier reported that the Delhi Government may send notices to such colleges that are appointing teachers without the Government’s representatives in the governing bodies. In Delhi Government-funded colleges, at least two members from the Government are supposed to be the part of such a body. However, many colleges had started the recruitment without constituting the governing body.
“Referring to the communication to all Government-funded colleges that no appointments shall be made by the governing body till members to them are nominated by the Delhi Government as required by the DU Ordinances, the department is in receipt of information that your college is carrying out recruitments of teachers/principals. It is once again reminded that no regular appointment should be made till the final formation of governing bodies,” said a senior official, Directorate of Higher Education in a written communication to DU.
Notwithstanding the Government’s directive, DU’s apex committee appointed full-time principals to nine of the State Government-funded colleges at a meeting on July 1.The nine colleges where full-time principals have been appointed are Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, laxmi Bai College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Satyawati College, Moti lal Nehru College and Kalindi college.
While members of DU’s apex committee have confirmed that the decision regarding the appointments was taken at a July 1 meeting. “No official notification has been issued in this regard,” they further added.Though DU authorities were not available for their comment on the violation of the Government’s earlier communication, but the Delhi University Teachers’ Association alleged that the varsity deliberately approved these appointments.
“The Government has a point in its objection. The governing bodies are lying truncated for quite some time because the varsity has not sent a list of nominees for approval to the Government,” said Nandita Narain, president, DUTA.“Why can’t the governing bodies be in place and then the appointments be madeIJ Why violate the OrdinanceIJ This is all deliberate,” Narain alleged.
