Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has directed the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) to stop the construction work of a library in a park situated in Rajnagar Sector-7, a posh residential colony of this city.
In a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, the Under Secretary has mentioned that the construction of a library is in the violation of section (13) of UP Urban planning Act 1973. The GDA official mentioned that the environmentalist Akash Vashishtha in his complaint to the authority has pointed out that the park was handed over to the municipal body for maintenance but the civic body has started construction of a library on its park.
According to UP Urban Planning Act, if construction is carried out for more than specified 5 per cent limit of the total area, it violates the Act, hence, land use has to change after completing the procedure. At present park contains more than 30 per cent concretisation which is beyond permissible limit in the park. The construction of more than the specified limit is also a violation of National Green Tribunal (NGT) order. So in view of such violation you are asked to stop construction of the library in the park, the GDA official stated.
“The construction is a violation, though the letter has not reached to my table. If this construction cross the specified limit of 5 per cent , it’s construction would be stopped” said Municipal Commissioner CP Singh.
