'Stealing' of bodies from Noida graveyard leaves police stumped

Published on:

The Noida Police was sent into a tizzy on Wednesday when bodies of three children were found to be missing from a graveyard located opposite to The Great India Place mall.  Police suspected the case to be the handiwork of stray canines or wild animals.

According to police, three cases of missing buried bodies have surfaced over the last 10 days from the graveyard opposite to The Great India Place mall. The graveyard, spread over 8-acre, is the city's largest graveyard.

Mohammed Syed, Imam who helps in burial at the graveyard, said Al Hamad, an eight-month-old child, died on Tuesday evening due to illness and was buried late night. Around 6 am on Wednesday when Imam along with Hamad's father Tabrez and other family members reached there to pay their respects, they were shocked to see that the child's body was missing.

The child's family claimed that the body has been removed from the graveyard intentionally.  Another family also reported the case of missing body of a one and a half month old toddler on September 30 from the graveyard.

Hazi Tajjuddin, a family member of the toddler, claimed another missing body 10 days ago. He had also approached the police seeking investigation of the case.

"We have taken the issue seriously and are investigating the matter. We are taking help of zoological experts and they have found some footprints of animals there. There might be possibility that unattended animals may have taken the bodies. Yet we are investigating the matter" said Vijay Dhool, Assistant superintendent of police, Noida.
