Stagnant waters host diseases

Waterlogging continues to be the Achilles Heel of the national Capital. Stagnant water caused by incessant waterlogging is one of the reasons for the spread of vector-borne diseases. Even as the civic agencies claimed to have initiated measures to prevent mosquitoes breeding, the cases of vector-borne diseases have registered an upward curve.

According to the status report of municipal Corporations released on Monday, dengue cases have reached upto 87 in which 37 cases have been reported from outside Delhi. While chikungunya cases stood at 146 with 41 cases reported from the peripheral areas of the national Capital, cases of Malaria has reached to a staggering 93 with record 26 new cases registered in a week.

Officials from all the three Corporations however say that they have not left any stone unturned in creating awareness among citizens.

“The Corporation, in order to prevent such diseases, has already initiated an awareness programme and put up over 100 huge hoardings illustrating the do’s and don’ts. We are in the process to speed up the awareness programme in an aggressive way,” said YS Maan, Director (P&I) of North MCD.
