St Stephen's to set up help desk for differently-abled

Even as St Stephen's College declared that it would go completely online for registrations in admissions this year, it is coming up with special arrangement for persons with disabilities (PWD).

"There has been arrangement for the PWD so that if they need any assistance in filing forms, the college will help them. There would be helpdesks where people with computers will help out such students in completing the online registration process," said Principal of the college Valson Thampu.

He said since the college's admission process would go online for the coming academic session it has planned to provide counselling to students with disabilities.

"PWD students do not need any pay application fee and they will receive counselling in the college. We are taking this initiative to extend help to such students, though the number of intake is assigned as per the university rules all of the students visiting us would be ensured with an easy process of applying to our institute," he added. The college's intake of PWD students is three per cent of the total of students admitted.

The college authorities have also clarified that there would not be any limited number of printed admission forms available to students of any category. "We would like to make it clear that students of all categories must follow online admission process. Students applying under the PWD category also need to fill forms online. There has been some misinformation that they have to come and submit the printout of the application forms. While as in the category selection system the computer will assist them in such a way that instead of being directed to the payment gateway, they will be directed to either upload a scanned copy of their disability certificate to continue with the submission of the online form or send the copy of disability certificate through email. Or take the printout of the form and send the disability certificate along with it directly to the college. These three gateways have been opened especially for the assistance of PWD students," said KM Mathew, the tutor of the college.

The admissions process at the college will start on June 1 and the date of closing the registration process would be June 19, the same day when the application process in other colleges ends.
