In a tragic incident, two persons, a boy and a girl, died on the spot after a fatal accident in south-east Delhi’s Tughlaqabad area. Both of them were travelling on a motorcycle when a Honda Mobilio car hit them from behind and they fell from the flyover and died on the spot.
Police said the accused driver identified as Mohammed Anwar (28), a resident of Kathputli Colony in Shadipur, was stopped and handed over to the police immediately by locals when he tried to speed away.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, south-east district, Romil Baaniya, said one of the deceased has been identified as Sulabh Pandey (18), a resident of Faridabad. The girl has been identified as Prachi. Both used to work at a store in Pul Prahladpur.
Police said the girl and the boy, who were on a Hero Splendour bike, were going to Faridabad from Mehrauli and fell from the flyover when the car hit them from behind.
“The impact of the accident was so much that both of them flew out from the flyover and fell below and died on the spot,” said the official.
A crowd gathered immediately on the spot and the police rushed the victims immediately to AIIMS trauma centre where they were declared brought dead by the doctor.
“We have seized both the bike and the car. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A case under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the accident was registered at the Badarpur police station. Further investigation in the matter is on,” said Baaniya.
