'Speed up SIT probe into '84 riots'

AAP MlA Jarnail Singh launched a scathing attack on the CBI on Wednesday for filing a closure report in a Delhi court in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case involving former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler and urged the Arvind Kejriwal Government to ensure speedy justice to the riot victims’ families.
Raising the issue during Special Mention under Rule 280, the AAP MlA said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the AAP Government during its 49-day stint should expedite the investigations into the anti-Sikh carnage in the national Capital.
Singh said he had seen the 1984 massacre when he was just 11-year-old child. “There is a Widow Colony in Rajouri Garden. The victims are still awaiting justice.” Singh said that the SIT formed about a year ago by the AAP Government should immediately speed-up the process of investigation into the 1984 massacre. “I request you, please speed up the investigations,” he said.
Singh said he was very well aware that the Delhi Police was not under the purview of the city administration. “I wish the Delhi Police was under us, we could have taken quick action into serious matter.” Singh also criticised the BJP Government, saying that prior the election, the Central Government had announced `5 lakh to each victim families, but after the election they put the onus on the State Government to disburse compensation amount.
Before Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s reply to the debate on the Vote of Account in the Assembly, Singh launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-Government at the Centre for filing the closure report in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case involving Tytler just three months before the elections. “The CBI had filed the closure report just before the elections. This is simply breach of trust,” Singh said.
