A special one-day Delhi Assembly session on Wednesday has been extended for a sitting on Monday to discuss the proposed Metro fare hike. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday introduced a resolution in the Assembly, opposing the hike. The discussion and passing of the resolution will happen on Monday.
Gahlot said that the proposed hike is an “insensitive approach” and urged the Union Ministry of Urban Development to “actively and quickly intervene”. He also said that the hike would be a burden on people reeling under the effect of the Goods and Services Tax, demonetisation and fuel price hike.
The Aam Aadmi Party Government has been has been opposing the move of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) over the proposed hike from October 10. The DMRC has already hiked the fare in May this year and if the proposed hike is comes in force it will second hike in a year.
