Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has referred the issue of Aam Aadmi Party’s Tilak Nagar MlA Jarnail Singh, who was declared absconding by the Delhi Police, to the Privileges Committee of the Delhi Assembly to probe the matter further. The committee is advised to investigate the matter and submit a report to the Speaker.
Raising the issue under Rule 280 in the House, AAP MlA Jarnail Singh alleged that Delhi Police Commissioner had declared him absconding after his anticipatory bail was rejected in a case of alleged assault on an MCD engineer during the demolition of an illegal building in West Delhi.
Singh had however, complained that he was, in fact, inside the police station when he was declared absconding, and that it was only after that he had approached the High Court for relief.
Singh further alleged that both MCD and Delhi Police were demanding bribe to stop demolition in his constituency. When he protested, Delhi Police implicated in a false case, said Singh, adding that MCD engineers had come to the said colony in West Delhi to take bribe for not demolishing the unauthorised construction.
