A 34-year-old South African has been arrested on Monday on charges of raping a woman from Nagaland on the pretext of marriage.

The 24-year-old woman filed a complaint against the accused, Nilengo, on Sunday evening at Mukherjee Nagar police station in North Delhi. The man was arrested and a case has been registered against him under Sections 376 (rape) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) of IPC.

The woman was reportedly living-in with Nileango, he was currently unemployed. He had come to India on a business visa.  The victim had been working as a beautician in Bangalore and had come in contact of the South African around six months ago.

“Around four months ago, the woman came to Delhi on Nilengo’s insistence to come here to set up a business. She has been staying at a rented accommodation of the man since she arrived in Delhi,” the official said.During the period, she got pregnant and Nilengo asked her to abort the child and gave her pills. The woman asked him to marry her but despite several assurances, he kept procrastinating.

The woman had even approached Burari police station in North Delhi over the issue where the couple was advised to go for family counseling. Fed up of continuous refusal by Nilengo, the girl last night approached Mukherjee Nagar police station and filed an FIR.
