In an order to prop the sagging morale of party workers, the Delhi Congress and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit are planning to organise rallies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in South and East Delhi respectively.
The rallies are aimed at lifting the mood of party workers and also inviting them to work for Congress candidates. Even though the venues are yet to be finalised, sources said that leaders were scouting for bigger grounds to attract a groundswell.
Top sources told The Pioneer that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her Cabinet colleagues met on Monday to prepare a roadmap for rallies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi in the Capital.
“The final date is to be decided by the party high command,” said a Delhi Government Minister on condition of anonymity. Party cadres as well as block and district level committees have been sounded to start working for the rallies to make it look noteworthy, he added.
The Minister stated that after Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Mangolpuri last week, MlAs from other areas have demanded similar rallies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to boost the confidence of party workers since elections are going to be tough.
These rallies will help the Congress counter Narendra Modi’s wave in the Capital. A Congress MlA said that a public rally by Congress president and vice-president will help party workers mobilise voters ahead of elections. “This will also help counter BJP’s false campaigning,” he said.
