The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is set to shun its conventional style of functioning and don an all new corporate look along the lines enunciated by the BJP-led Government at the Centre. All Heads of Department (HoDs) in the civic body have been asked to give a detailed presentation on ways to improve the work culture and efficiency of their departments. They have been asked to meet their targets in a time-bound manner so as to improve community services and other basic amenities. This includes primary education, sanitation, health services and building and licencing departments, among others.
To ensure its implementation, the corporation has decided to take up the matter in weekly standing committee meetings. Unlike the set norms, the meetings would begin with presentation on each of these services and later other issues would be taken up. Chairman of the Standing Committee in SDMC, Satish Upadhyay said the exercise aims at image makeover as also to improve the working style of the civic body. “There will be zero tolerance towards the lacklustre attitude of SDMC employees. It is necessary to change their mindset for better management of services,” Upadhyay said.
The officials have been asked to detail in the next meeting of the Standing Committee on how to obtain ISO certification for all its dispensaries, polyclinics and childcare and maternity centres. Similarly, the Education Department officials will have to explain ways to compete with private schools in terms of quality education. Another key area will be sanitation and drainage system along with building department and licencing units. The corporation plans to encourage e-governance to the maximum in order to curb corruption and win back the public trust. “All HoDs have been asked to give a presentation on introducing e-governance in their departments. They have been asked to fix a deadline for meeting their targets and execute the same within the stipulated time frame,” the Standing Committee Chairman added.
