SOl admission process to go 'completely online'

Delhi University’s School of Open learning (SOl) has decided to make its admission process “completely online” from this academic session along the lines of the university’s admission process for regular courses.

However, the students with any disability and those falling under the category of Below Poverty line are free to opt for any — online or offline registration for the admissions, SOl Director CS Dubey told The Pioneer.

Saying that online registrations were more popular, Dubey said last year, SOl received over 1.4 lakh applications from students, who could not make it to the DU colleges due to high cut off scores. Out of which 1.10 lakh applications were though online.

According to Dubey, the candidates who opted for offline registration took “70 days” in completing the form across 30 centres which delayed the starting of courses by the school. “Through online, students get a bar-code immediately which helps them access textbooks,” Dubey said.

The director said that it can be competed in seven steps which is “hassle free”.

“The students can retrieve their marks by just feeding their roll number. It follows with their choice of programme…and out database directs them to the page for IDBI and SBI gateway for payments,” he said and underlined that the system was “robust and strong”.

“If the student leaves the application incomplete at step six, we send them a text message to remind and insist on completing the process immediately.”

The school is going to send the proposal to the Distance Education Bureau for approval. “We have made all preparations for this year’s examination process…now the proposal would be sent across to the Distance Education Bureau which sets the guidelines for all the distance education facilities in the country. We are expecting to get their approval in the last week of this month, following which we would be able commence our admission process,” Dubey said.
