Social networking sites a strict no-no for topper

His dedicated hours of daily studies and regular revision of subjects secured Paras Sharma the top position in Class XII of All India Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE).

During summer vacation he prepared for tough subjects, particularly Mathematics, Accounts and business studies. He devoted seven to eight hours a day to studies even during holidays.

He said that social networking sites were a strict no-no for him as he thought that the negative aspects of social networking sites outweigh the positive aspects. His family and relatives said he worked very diligently and while studying he would not pay attention to anything else. It was only after his board examination, that he considered buying a phone. His school teachers said that he was an all-rounder as not only was he inclined towards academics, but was actively involved in dramatics and debating too.

He has secured 100 marks in Mathmatics, Accounts, Economics and Business Studies. However, in English, he earned 95 per cent marks. As for Paras, he was not expecting to top the country. He said he was expecting 97 per cent marks and was overjoyed on knowing that he had scored a whopping 99 per cent. Paras said, "I did not expect to top the country, but was expecting 97 per cent. I want to pursue Economics honors from St Stephens College. I draw my inspiration from our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and would want to become a great economist like him. Scoring a 99 per cent required a lot of dedication. I had to keep myself away from all distractions and work diligently."

latesh Choudhary, Principal of lancers Convent, where Paras studied, said, "We are really proud of Paras. We could see a spark in him since childhood. He's always been an exceptional student. Although we did not expect him to top the country, we were expecting him to top the State. He has been extremely focused and would not waste a single minute in school. He worked extremely hard throughout the year. He secured a 92 per cent in his pre-boards.”
