The gangster who was gunned down by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in an encounter on Tuesday morning hailed from a family of felons. Feroz, alias Fauji, was involved in over 17 cases in the Capital and NCR regions. His parents are active criminals mired in several cases of drug trafficking.

Feroz’s elder brother Imran is currently lodged in Dasna Jail for his role in a number of homicides in Ghaziabad.  His other brother Sher Khan, alias Sheru, was arrested for several cases of theft and cheating.

In February 2014, Feroz fired at local journalist Mohammad Shahid. Shahid’s brother owned a pharmacy in loni area in Ghaziabad and Feroz demanded protection money from him. “When he resisted, he fired shots to instil fear. In the same month, he fired at Sub-Inspector Azad Singh and his squad, who had gone to apprehend him.  He escaped after firing on the police crew. He again fired at a policeman on June 9 when police was conducting a routine check,” informed a senior police official.

He robbed various businessmen in Ghaziabad area and trained his gun on them when they defied him. He also fired at the owner of Hotel Arif in July with his cohorts Sheru and Qadir. He was also a close associate of Anwar Thakur, currently lodged in Tihar Jail. It is suspected that the caché of arms recovered from Anwar’s residence in the early hours of August 15 was sent by Feroz.
