Sixth car-free day today

Published on:

Delhi will celebrate the sixth car-free day on Tuesday as the road stretch on loni Road between Shahdara Terminal and loni circle will go car-free from 8 am to 4 pm.

While usually, the monthly car-free day is kicked off with a cycle rally, often led by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself and accompanied by many of his Ministers, this time, there won’t be any cycle rally. In place of the rally, the Government is planning to organise an awareness march to educate people about environment.

To ensure sufficient transport facilities for the commuters on the said stretch, DTC will run a special shuttle bus service with a frequency of five minutes.

“DTC has made special arrangement for the operation of special buses along the route on which Car Free Day is observed for the convenience of commuters. A special shuttle bus service having No 273 Shuttle will be operated from 8 am to 5 pm between Shahdara Terminal and loni Circle with a frequency of five minutes. Sufficient number of officers and traffic supervisory staff will be deployed by DTC to prove all possible help to the commuters,” said Dr RS Minhas, Dy Chief General Manager (PR), DTC.

The Government observes car-free day on 22nd of every month in different areas of the city to encourage people to use public transport.

The last edition of the car free day took place on February 22 from

Munirka T-point to Hyatt Hotel

T-point on Vivekanand Marg for eight hours from 8 am to 4 pm. However, the event was deemed to be a failure as a huge number of cars were seen plying on the stretch.
