Six months on, SDMC yet to install CCTVs in schools

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had promised to install CCTV cameras in its schools to ensure safety and security of students in wake of the brutal murder of a 7-year-old boy in a prestigious school of neighboring Gurugram. The cameras were to be installed by December last year but six months down the line the much touted CCTV project in SDMC-run schools is still a non-starter. Having failed in installing cameras, SDMC has re-invented its old scheme and has promised to complete the project within a time frame.

Chairperson of Standing Committee in SDMC, Shikha Rai announced to install 4348 cameras its 344 primary schools in its schools on Friday.  She said that the project cost has been finalized at Rs. 5, 53, 27,528.  "SDMC is committed to provide fool proof security to the students and ensure a reliable surveillance system to overcome incidents of lapses in the security," she said.

Rai further stated that the agency is bound to complete installation within four months after awarding the work.  "The civic body will not tolerate any delay in the execution of this work as it is directly related to the safety of the students," she added.
