RTI activist in Gr Noida threatened for raising voice against subpar construction
An RTI activist in Greater Noida has alleged that he is being threatened by contractors for opposing the use of inferior materials in developmental projects in the area. The activist, Kapil Pandit, a close associate of slain BJP leader Vijay Pandit, has alleged that poor quality materials were used for road construction and sewer lines in Dadri and Dankaur area. The victim has complained to the police but no case has been registered yet.
Kapil, a resident of Dadri town, alleged that he is being targeted since a couple of weeks by contractors as he has raised the issue of poor materials in road construction following which work was stopped and inspection was being carried out by the department concerned. last week, a few unidentified persons appeared at his shop and threatened him of dire consequences. Scuffling with Kapil’s younger brother, the assailants said that Kapil has annoyed them by filing RTI regularly. If he does not stop seeking information, he will be killed one day.
The activist informed the police about the entire incident and sought proper investigation of the case. He also sought police protection as he fears for his life. However, police said that they are investigating the matter and a case will be registered only when written complaint will be received.
“The victim has not lodged a complaint in writing. We are investigating the matter and if required, a case will be registered accordingly,” said a senior police official of Greater Noida.
