After implementing 'internship programme' for students, pursuing vocational courses, the Delhi Government is planning to introduce 'vocational' courses as one of the main subjects of  the curriculum  and not as additional ones.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia,  who also holds the 'education portfolio' has announced that the AAP Government will start vocational courses as part of the syllabus in all Delhi Government run schools.

"All schools should be having vocational subjects in their curriculum. And these subjects should be treated at par with the regular subjects. We aim to make vocational subject as a main subject and not an additional subject. We will be talking to CBSE about this soon," Sisodia said.

"When we came to power, the condition of vocational education was bad. I am delighted to see the improvement it has made in all these years,’ the Deputy Chief Minister announced at the 'internship celebration event' at Thyagraj Stadium.

It may be recalled that the AAP Government has recently announced to start a 'Skill and Entrepreneurship University' in Delhi. "Preference will be given to students of vocational subjects for admission in this university," he said.

The internship event was led by Education and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Many other senior officials, companies, teachers and students were also present in the celebrations.

The event also saw the presence of leading company and hotels such as Radisson Blue, Taj hotel group, Maruti, Decathlom, State Bank of India (SBI) and others.  "It was a great experience for me as I got a lot of exposure while working with the Taj. They taught me how to make chocolates and all that I had learnt in my vocational classes; I also got the opportunity to apply them in the real world. This was a great practical learning for me," said Swati, a student of Sarvodya Co-ed School, Munirka, who had done her internship Taj Palace Hotel.

Another student Samya said, "I had the best 15 days of my life while interning with Taj. I worked with renowned Chefs and interacted with guests. I also got the opportunity to work in the linen department and later on in the laundry department. I developed more confidence while dealing with guests and supervisors. It has helped me to shape my personality."

"We loved the experience of providing opportunity to school students. Students were curious and worked hard," project manager of Taj hotel group. While, head of the Department (HOD) of Radisson Blue's Human Resource (HR) team, said, " "We are happy that we could partner with the Government on this wonderful initiative, the students were very curious and learned a lot."
