Jubilations broke out outside the Karkardooma Court premises on Wednesday soon after the court ordered re-investigation against Jagdish Tytler. Hundreds of Sikhs assembled outside the court and hailed the court’s order as they also raised slogans against Tytler demanding punishment to him for perpetrating the 1984 carnage.
The slogan-shouting members of the community, some of them carrying placards and displaying swords, expressed hope that the court would ensure justice to the victims of the riots.
The placards carried slogans like “Hang Tytler for Sikh killings; Tytler haay haay and Faansi do, faansi do, Tytler ko faansi do”. They also raised slogans against the CBI, which is investigating into the matter. They alleged the Congress Party of misusing the CBI and trying to shield Tytler. Sattu Singh, the relative of a riot victim said the court’s order has reposed her faith in judiciary and she was hopeful that the court would bring them justice.
“I have lost my husband and elder brother of my husband in riot. Only death penalty to Tytler can give us the solace,” she said.
Manjeet Singh GK, president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee said, “For me it is restart of the fight for justice. Re-investigation into the matter will bring the truth before the country.
However, the real celebration will only be after the accused is punished and I have faith on our judiciary that justice will prevail.” Tytler, an accused in the case, had been given a clean chit by CBI in 2009. However, a petition was filed by lakhwinder Kaur, the widow of a victim, challenging the magisterial court’s order that had accepted the closure report.
