Former Congress MP Bhikhu Ram Jain’s younger son Virender Jain is contemplating to file a contempt petition in the court against his elder brother Naren Jain who offered the four-bedroom house to Kejriwal.
However, on Monday Virender claimed that the property was “disputed” and that he would now file a contempt petition in the court. Naren Jain — one of the seven children of Congress’s former MP from Chandni Chowk Bhiku Ram Jain — had decided to rent out the house to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Two days after Naren announced that he would rent out the residence in the posh locality to the former Delhi Chief Minister for “several thousands of rupees” and not Rs 1 as claimed by the AAP — the matter didn’t seem to sink well with his elder brother Virender.
“I would file a contempt of court petition in a day or two. The property is disputed and is sub-judice. letting it out on rent will be a “violation” of the Delhi High Court’s order which says that “status quo” should be maintained in the property,” said Virender. 4B Flagstaff Road, the house which was offered to Kejriwal is claimed to be a disputed one.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the elder Jain said that none of the children can rent or sell the property. “I am not concerned whether Kejriwal or some body else comes and stays in the house. All I know is that the status quo should not be violated which is being done in this case by letting it out,” he said.
Naren, on the other hand, did a complete U-turn and said that Kejriwal would now come to the house as a ‘guest’. He even denied to have even asked the AAP leader some thousands of rupees as rent and said that the siblings were targeting him because of his inclination towards AAP. “It’s true the case is pending in Delhi High Court, but renting it out in no way would violate the status quo. The law only bars me from selling the property,” said Naren.
To this, Virender reacted, “Why is he now Naren now allowing Kejriwal to live as a guest if he thinks renting is not a violation of the court orderIJ This itself speaks of his doublespeak.”
After he decided to finally move out of his official Tilak lane residence Kejriwal had identified the four-bedroom house on Flagstaff Road, which is spread across 800 square yards and has a barsati and a basement. He is supposed to shift in the house which is being renovated by the end of the month.
The AAP, however maintained that it was not aware of any such dispute regarding the property. “We do not know if the house concerned is disputed. We have not been communicated about it. It is for the owners of the house to comment on this issue,” said an AAP leader.
