In a case of hooliganism, two dozen armed youths attacked a house in south Delhi’s Safdurjung area on Sunday night. Gunshots were fired following an argument over taking a dog for a walk. Police recovered seven empty cartridges from the spot and arrested two persons after the incident.
Though the house occupants escaped the bullets, a neighbour received gun injury in his abdomen and he was recuperating in the hospital. The locals alleged that 20 shots were fired. Police said a man was injured in the attack, while two others were arrested.
The incident took place at Humayun Pur village in Safdurjung Enclave after a resident Sahil (22) had an argument with a local named Rohit around 8.30 pm. Sahil used to go on evening walk with his dog. His cousin was also with him on Sunday. Rohit, however, was of the opinion that dog poo was creating a menace in the neighbourhood, and told Sahil and his cousin to return home.
It led to a heated argument between them. The matter was initially sorted out when the family members intervened. Sahil alleged that Rohit came outside his house with more than two dozen men and opened fire at 10.30 pm. Sahil’s neighbour Rajesh was injured in the incident. He sustained splinter injuries in his abdomen.
The footage of CCTV cameras shows the gathering of a mob outside the house. Police said that they have identified seven people and two were arrested. A case of attempt to murder has been registered on the basis of Sahil’s statement at the Safdurjung police station. The investigations are underway.
