The double-speak of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders once again came to fore with the party’s candidate from West Delhi, Jarnail Singh condemning the slapping of Arvind Kejriwal while he justified his act of hurling a shoe at the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Singh who came to limelight after the shoe incident and later took to politics from being a journalist, said his act was for a ‘just’ cause, whereas, that on AAP convener Kejriwal was ‘irrational’ and ‘dangerous’.
Emphasising on ‘understanding the reasoning’ behind both the incidents, Singh said that his act of throwing a shoe at Chidambaram came as a turning point in the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots case. “It was because of that incident that the Congress denied a ticket to Sajjan Kumar in the 2009 lok Sabha elections who was involved in the riots. Chidambaram had publicly said that he was happy that his friend, Kumar, was exempted by the CBI,” said Singh adding that his act had fast-tracked a case which was proceeding at snail’s pace for over 25 years.
He further went on to say that Kejriwal has done no wrong till date and hence does not deserve such violent blows from the public. “Kejriwal has never been involved in any riots. He is not involved in the murder of any person. What wrong has he done to deserve such repeated attacksIJ We need to understand the difference between a man shooting someone to rob him/her and a man who shoots at someone to protect our national border,”Singh added.
