Days after enquiry was initiated against the SHO of a northwest district police station, DCP Northwest Milind Dumbere on Thursday said they have sent the SHO to district lines and a case has been registered against SHO Naresh Kumar of Jahangirpuri police station for allegedly pocketing Rs25 lakh from a garbage picker in the Jahangirpuri area.

Talking to The Pioneer, Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) said, “We have registered a case under Sections 403, 408 and 120B of the IPC. Further action will be taken against Inspector Naresh Kumar as and when needed.”

According to police, action was taken after police registered the FIR against Naresh  after a woman allegedly complained that he had taken money amounting to Rs25 lakh from a garbage collector and never reported it to the higher authorities.

The woman in her complaint had alleged that, Titu a garbage collector had found Rs25 lakh in cash while he was searching through the trash. Titu approached the Jahangirpuri SHO and handed him the money. However, the SHO took the money from him and never reported the cases in a bid to pocket the entire amount after conducting a raid at Titu’s home.

Police said while investigating the case, police tried to get in touch with Titu, who was found to be a native of West Bengal.

“We traced him to a location in West Bengal. During questioning he told us that he had found the money in Pitampura on November 12. He told his friends about it and the complainant who runs a shop in the locality overheard them and complained to the SHO. The raid was conducted on November 15 at 12 pm and the complainant was informed that she would receive money for giving tip-off. However, the SHO paid Rs1.3 lakh and asked him to leave the city.

Police further said he left for West Bengal on Friday. We have detained him and questioned him. Now we are looking at taking action against four of his juniors for their involvement.
