The Station House Officer (SHO) of New Friends Colony police station was on Tuesday sent to District Policelines along with the division officer Sub Inspector (SI) Rajender Singh and three beat constables were placed under suspension for their gross inaction in controlling the law and order situation after the murder of one Rupesh on Sunday.
An order to this effect was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal after a preliminary enquiry was conducted by Additional DCP-I of South East District.
“Based upon the preliminary findings of a vigilance enquiry conducted by Additional DCP-I, South East District to look into the alleged lapses by local police in the context of murder of Rupesh, a resident of Taimur Nagar, on September 30 last and resulted in law and order problem, SHO Inspector Sushil Kumar and Division Officer SI Rajender have been sent to District Lines and Beat officers HC Ajay, Ct Surender and Ct Hari Chand have been placed under suspension,” DCP Chinmoy Biswal stated.
The departmental action was taken after Rupesh was shot dead in Taimur Nagar by two men allegedly linked to drug peddlers in the area. Protest had irrupted following the killing and locals alleged police apathy in catching the killers and demanded a CBI probe into the matter alleging local police staff to be in cahoots with the drug peddlers in the area.
The locals took to the streets and blocked the main Mathura road. Locals also pelted stones and burnt two motorcycles. The relatives alleged illegal immigrants residing in the area of being involved in drug trafficking. The deceased’s family alleged that he had opposed the sale of drugs in the area due to which he was killed.
