Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested an associate of sharp-shooter Junaid Choudhury, who is a henchman of underworld gangster Chhota Shakeel. Choudhury was recently arrested by the terror unit of Delhi Police as he was planning to eliminate liberal Muslim Canadian writer Tarek Fateh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwaha said the accused has been identified as Shahbaj Ansari (27) alias Chotu, who is a resident of house number 295, gali number 19 in old Mustafabad in Delhi.
Police said they are currently interrogating the accused to find out the whereabouts of another sharp-shooter who is associated with Ansari.
“One country-made pistol of .315 calibre and two live cartridges has been recovered from his possession. He was arrested around 8 pm on Thursday from Pushta Road, Rani Garden, near Geeta Colony bus stand,” said DCP Kushwaha.
The DCP further said that Ansari was wanted for a murder and a robbery case against him. Sources said Ansari was directed by Chhota Shakeel to eliminate religious leaders in Delhi.
Police produced both accused Junaid and Ansari before the court and asked for police custody. The court sent both the accused to two days police custody.
Junaid and Ansari will be interrogated together to find out more about the conspiracy and unearth the entire nexus, said the police official.
