Sharma's permanent suspension demanded

The Delhi Assembly session started with high decibel drama on Friday afternoon. The six woman MlAs of the AAP, including Alka lamba, walked out of the House demanding BJP legislator O P Sharma’s “permanent suspension” for using derogatory language against her.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MlAs also moved a Stop Work Proposal stating that the Government was not following the Constitution in its functioning, further adding to the Assembly chaos. It was rejected by the Speaker prompting a walkout by Gupta and BJP MlA Jagdish Pradhan.

lamba opposed Vijender Gupta’s move to bring a Stop Work Proposal. “Delhi Govt has so far introduced important bills in an unauthorised manner without the approval of the lG Najeeb Jung. The Kejriwal Government is not following the relevant provisions of the Constitution,” said Vijender Gupta.

As the session began, AAP MlA lamba stood up in the House and repeated her demand for revocation of Sharma’s membership of the Assembly. Sharma already stands suspended for the entire Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly for his allegedly “offensive remarks” against lamba.  The Assembly had on Thursday referred the matter to its ethics committee to take decision on this particular matter.

“We want justice to be delivered by the committee in this session only and we demand a fast-track trial on the issue as the matter is concerned with women security. We will not return until the Government assures us that decision will come in this session only by the ethics committee,” said Alka lamba, adding that if needed, the session be extended and even weekends be used to arrive at the final decision.

“Yesterday (Thursday) BJP legislators blamed us for hindering work in the Assembly due to our protest. But today (Friday) at the beginning of the session, Vijender Gupta brought ‘Stop Work’ Proposal. Why is this needed nowIJ” she asked.
