Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate 46 projects aimed at the revival of the Yamuna worth over `4,000 crore on September 30. She was speaking at the inauguration event of six State-of-the-art switching sub-stations at key Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus depots during the Sewa Pakhwada. While five switching sub-stations have been set up by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) in South and West Delhi, one has been set up by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) in North Delhi. The new switching sub-stations will supply nearly 50 MW of dedicated electricity, powering close to 1,000 electric buses. Four facili-ties-Peeragarhi, Shrini-vaspuri, Ambedkar Nagar, and Nangloi-are 33 kV Switching Sub-Stations, while Okhla Central Workshop is a full-fledged 66/11 kV Grid Sub-Station with 63 MVA capacity, the largest of the five.
As greenfield projects, these facilities demonstrate how BSES is creating specialized EV-ready infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted supply, quick issue resolution, and on-site operational control for DTC’s e-bus fleet.
By separating EV charging from retail consumer load, they also protect and strengthen the local electricity network, benefitting nearby consumers.
The Switching sub-stations on the occasion of Sewa Pakhwada were formally inaugurated and dedicated to the city Rekha Gupta in the presence of Minister for Power Ashish Sood and Minister of Transport Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Also present on the occasion were Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Yogender Chandoliya, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha). Among the distinguished MLAs present were Karnail Singh, MLA (Shakur Basti); Manoj Kumar Shokeen, MLA (Nangloi Jat) and Raj Karan Khatri, MLA (Narela).
The BSES team was led by Amal Sinha, Director and Group CEO, BSES, along with Abhishek Ranjan, CEO, BRPL, and Brajesh Kumar, COO BYPL.At the heart of this
transformation is the electrification of Delhi’s public transport fleet, led by DTC’s e-buses-the lifeline of lakhs of citizens.
As a partner in this journey, BSES is fueling the capital’s green transition. In close alignment with the Gover-nment of Delhi’s vision, BSES has built these five State-of-the-art switching sub-stations at DTC Bus Depots in Peeragarhi, Shrinivaspuri, Ambedkar Nagar, Nangloi, and Central Workshop Okhla.
Commenting on the occasion, A BSES spokesperson said: “Together with the Government of Delhi-under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, guided by Power Minister Ashish Sood, and supported by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh-BSES discoms — BRPL and BYPL are building a robust EV-ready power ecosystem. These efforts are not only electrifying DTC’s bus fleet but also reinforcing Delhi’s position as India’s EV Capital, setting a benchmark for green mobility and sustainable urban development across the country”. Earlier, these depots had negligible loads. With BSES’ dedicated sub-stations, they can now support fast overnight and oppor-
tunity charging, clearing bottlenecks in Delhi’s EV expansion. For DTC, BSES’ switching sub-stations will ensure uninterrupted charging, reduced downtime, and faster turnaround for buses-enabling smooth daily operations. For Delhi residents, BSES’ infrastructure ensures that bus charging does not burden household or commercial supply, while indirectly improving reliability for local consumers. The larger benefits are cleaner air, reduced emissions and a healthier Delhi. With latest inauguration, BRPL’s EV charging capacity for DTC depots now exceeds 100 MW, up from 46.6 MW earlier. Already, BRPL has commis-sioned 16 such swit-ching sub-stations for DTC depots, with 11 more in the pipeline. This is enabling Delhi’s plan to electrify its entire public bus fleet by 2027.
