The food packets that the Delhi Government had sent as a part of its relief efforts to Nepal were returned again on Monday because of not being able to land in Nepal. The same packets were returned on Sunday as well, according to sources.
The Delhi Government had on Sunday sent around 25,000 food packets for the survivors of the recent earthquake that hit Nepal causing death of nearly 4,000 people. The packets provided by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGPC) to Delhi Government could not land in the neighbouring country due to bad weather and were returned.
According to sources in the Delhi Government, the same packets were again sent on Monday. But they were once again returned. The source revealed that many packets have started to spoil and may have to be discarded. The Delhi Government had prepared 50,000 food packets for victims of Nepal earthquake.
According to the source, the Delhi Government had also spoken to the Nepal Embassy officials on the issue, and was told that they didn’t need food packets. The Embassy told the Government that instead of food packets, there is a dire need for medicines and blankets and that it would help if the Government provided those articles instead of the food packets, said the source.
The Delhi Government is further planning to send 30,000 more packets for the relief efforts, the source revealed. According to sources, the State Government has decided to send relief food packets and water to victims of Nepal following directions of Cabinet Secretariat.
