In a yet another case of sexual assault and rape by self styled godman, a 24-year-old woman lodged a complaint at Janakpuri Police Station against a self-styled spiritual healer for allegedly raping her on the pretext of curing her illness. The Delhi Police has arrested three people including the 40 year-old self-styled godman, Hari Narayan in the case.
The matter came to light after the victim narrated her ordeal to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) through an e-mail. The complainant in the letter also mentioned that she was not only being raped by the self-styled spiritual leader within his Janakpuri ashram but also, she was regularly molested by the godman’ and her woman accomplice identified as Meghna (25) and his secretary Sakshi (38).
According to DCW official, she is a teacher in a leading school in Delhi where she met Meghna, a senior from her college who is also a teacher in the same school. “Meghna introduced her to Narayan in Janakpuri and started to influence the victim on how it was beneficial for body and soul. Meghna narrated her own experience stating how she was miraculously cured by the Baba. Once she managed to gain the victim’s confidence, she started coercing her to visit the ashram in Janakpuri for a spiritual healing experience,” said DCW official.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal has urged the women to come forward to report such incidents to the commission through helpline number 181.
“The victim on 10 July along with Meghna met baba and his secretary Sakshi where she was allegedly laced with intoxicants in the food and after that she was raped by baba and molested by his female accomplice,” said the DCW official.
“We have arrested the accused Hari Nayaran, and two women who were part of crime,” said Monika Bhardawaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West district. Few weeks back Delhi Police had arrested Asif Khan alias Ashu Maharaj on charges of rape and intimidation. He was held after a woman lodged a complaint that she was raped by Maharaj and even her daughter was molested by him, his son.
