A 41-year-old security guard of a company in Jannakpuri, who was accompanying a cash van en route to their Noida office, was shot in the head by unknown assailants at Noida Link Road just few meters from DND road toll plaza in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Monday at around 10 pm. However, no cash was looted from the van, a police official said.

Three persons, including guard Bishambar Singh (41), driver Mahinder and the firm’s custodian Sandeep kumar (27), were transferring company cash into the firm’s Noida office when they were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in a Scorpio, police said.

According to the complainant Sandeep, late night on Monday, a Scorpio allegedly started following their cash van and tried to overtake their vehicle. He said, “After a while, the Scorpio stopped in front of the van and one person came out with a gun. He shouted at us to get out of the van and when the guard Bishamba, who also had a gun started to get down he was shot in the head.”

“I tried to get out of the van and accidently pushed the accused with the gun and he fell on the ground. Panicking I ran towards the back of the van where I saw another vehicle, a Nissan Sunny behind our van and there were few men with guns inside the car.  I ran to the other side of the road and called the police,” he stated in the complaint.

Sandeep alleged that after a while, he heard gunshots and saw them fleeing, leaving behind the Nissan sunny car. “When I reached the spot, they had broken the locks of the van, but no cash was stolen. I asked someone to take Bishambar to hospital. The driver Mahinder also came back to the scene and he told me that the accused persons took him in their Scorpio when they were fleeing and robbed him of his phone and Rs 1200 cash,” he said.

“The vehicle they left behind after their failed loot has been taken under police custody. We are looking into CCTV footage of the incident to trace the accused. Multiple teamshave been formed to trace the accused,” a senior police official said.
