SDMC's free toilet use at hotels hailed

South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s (SDMC) decision to allow women and children use washrooms for free at hotels and restaurants has been widely appreciated.

The corporation’s gesture was applauded by the people of South Delhi mainly women who said that this helped them a great deal.

“This is a very effective step with regards to the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan. As far as women are concerned, this helps a lot of us considering the hygiene issues and privacy. We are not used to urinating anywhere and everywhere. We need clean toilets for that” Anchal Singh, a Green Park resident told The Pioneer.

Some women were also of the opinion that the new decision is time-saving in many ways.

“I’m glad to see such a mature decision taken by the authorities. We have to travel a lot for work and it’s not always possible to go all the way back home in order to use the washroom. This decision will help women in many ways and also create awareness,” said Binita Choudhury, an employee of Vodafone in Gurgaon.

The move to provide free access to all the restaurants and hotels was given a nod by representatives of hotel and

restaurants associations of India in a meeting this week.

Praising the move, some people also suggested that the Government should take action to increase the number of public toilets especially in markets in order to provide facility to all and to maintain complete hygiene.

“While the move is appreciated, but to ensure complete hygiene in the city the Government needs to come up with more public facilities for the other section of the society as well. I am happy that my wife and children can now enjoy the cleaner washrooms in the restaurants rather than those unmaintained and unhygienic public toilets,” said Chaitanya Bakshi.
