In an effort to address the civic issues and to put it on fast track, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) convened a high-level meeting to discuss at length the issues such as repair and maintenance of roads, desilting of drains and other sanitation related services.

SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that the meeting will be held in the presence of Delhi's Urban Development Minister, senior officers of the department, the MlAs and Councilors representing SDMC localities.

It may be recalled that Delhi Government's Urban Development Department had issued a circular dated 11 March 2016 on the subject. The circular stated that desilting of drains and repair or maintenance of drains in unauthorised colonies shall not be allowed unless executing agencies certifies that it is appropriate and necessary to undertake repair or maintenance unless special approval is given by the Delhi Government.

SDMC House has adopted a resolution moved by Shikha Rai,  which was seconded by Bhupender Gupta in which it was decided to execute of works in an unauthorised colony by the engineering department by using the discretionary fund of the area councillors.

The resolution also stated that after the issuance of above mentioned circular, SDMC is not undertaking such works in unauthorised colonies resulting in deterioration of condition and pouring in  of large number of complaints from the general public.

While taking part in the discussion Rai and Gupta stated that it will be in a public interest to undertake repair or maintenance of roads and drains and desilting of drains in unauthorized colonies.

The House also recommended directing the Commissioner to undertake the development work in unauthorised colonies Rai and Gupta expressed their satisfaction over this resolution being adopted in the house meeting.
