Acting tough against the menace of illegal mobile towers, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to attach or seal the properties on which new mobile towers would come up. leader of House in SDMC, Subhash Arya said that strict measures were necessitated against illegal towers given the harmful effects and the High Court's order to remove all illegal mobile towers.

The issue was raised in the house meeting of SDMC on Monday wherein members from all parties univocally pulled up the officers for not acting against the ongoing installation of towers without permission.

Arya said that the sealing and attachment action will be taken against properties on which these towers are coming up. Raising the issue, independent councillor Kalpana Jha alleged that six illegal mobile towers had came up in her ward. Congress councillor Abhishek Dutt said that towers installed after December 2009 are illegal as they violate the laws and also causes huge revenue loss to the Corporation. Chairman of the Standing Committee, Rajesh Gehlot, too, said that despite having permission to install one tower, the telecom companies have set up at least ten towers.

To this, Municipal Commissioner Manish Gupta informed the house that on June 26, a circular was issued to initiate action against illegal towers. "Orders clearly direct officials to dismantle illegal towers," he said. Meanwhile, South Delhi Mayor Sarita Chaudhary has directed the Commissioner to submit a detailed report on illegal mobile towers installed in 104 Wards in the next meeting of the house.

"Commissioner should also mention in the report whether the properties on which these towers are installed, have paid property tax on time," she said assuring that the SDMC will take stern action against illegal mobile towers and remove them as soon as possible.
