To convey a strong message to unscrupulous builders against the violation of the "Building Control Regulations" notified in the "Master Plan-2021" and "Building Bye-laws-2016", South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday initiated action against unauthorised and illegal constructions in South zone, following the instructions given in the 52nd meeting of the 'Nodal Steering Committee' (NSC) and an order of the High court in a hearing of 'Public Interest litigation' (PIl).

SDMC while seriously following the instructions of NSC formulated an action plan to put an end to unauthorized constructions and ensure that the same may not happen in the future.  Earlier a high level team of the agency conducted a surprise inspection to take cognizance of large scale unauthorized construction.

A senior SDMC official said that the building department of south zone has formulated separate teams for taking demolition and sealing action against the unauthorised constructions in the areas of Chhattarpur,  Chirag Delhi, Khirki, Krishna Park-Khanpur and  Said-ul-Azaab etc.  "During the actions, as many as seven properties were demolished.  Apart from this one property in Khirki area and one in Rajpur Khurd were also sealed," he said.

"The demolition actions commenced in the morning, and continued till late evening. Although, the local residents tried to create hindrance and started protesting against the actions but despite all the adversity, actions were taken by the concerned officials. locals kept putting pressure on the demolition squad and adopted various measures to prevent them from taking the demolition and sealing actions," the official said.

The Corporation official also said that the Delhi Jal Board and discoms have also been informed to disconnect the water and electricity connections, a move to de motivate unscrupulous builders from going ahead with such unlawful activities.  "The punitive actions have further been boosted by sending letters to the revenue department for not registering the booked properties on the ground of unauthorized constructions. The teams will continue to take demolition and sealing actions in the days to come," he said.

"It was being observed that some unscrupulous builders have been in the habit of carrying out unauthorized constructions in different areas without bothering about the provisions of Master Plan-2021 and Building Bye-laws-2016.  They tend to flout these provisions off and on, despite initiation of punitive actions under the DMC Act-1957," he further said.

He also informed that the demolition and sealing actions were taken in past as well to discourage the unauthorised constructions but it remained perennial functions.
