In a move to step up its revenue, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday decided to start a door-to-door survey of all properties falling in its jurisdiction by using maps obtained from Geospatial Delhi ltd. According to an estimate, there are 12 lakh properties falls under SDMC jurisdiction which are liable to pay property tax.

A senior SDMC official said that the field surveyors will visit all the properties to collect data necessary for calculating the property tax liability and the details of tax paid by the property owner. This exercise is going to be started in July and is likely to be completed in 9 months.

“We have already collected all the details of properties in Delhi from different sources and also have enough material to determine the use of land. However, this door to door survey will further strengthen our efforts and leave no properties untouched. As per the DMC Act, all building and vacant lands are liable to pay property tax. The move is taken to bring them in tax net,” he said.
