In the ongoing sealing drive, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday sealed 14 properties at 46 points for misuse in stilt parking in New Friends Colony. North Corporation also sealed six properties in Rohini and Paschim Vihar.

Also, in view of nuisance created by unlicensed and illegal sugarcane crushers operating in Najafgarh Zone, an intensified food hygiene raid was conducted by the south corporation in the last three days wherein illegally operating 14 sugarcane crushers were seized, a senior SDMC official said.

He further said the action was taken keeping the health of general public in view. The drive against illegal and unlicensed sugarcane crushers will be continued intensively in all parts of Najafgarh zone, he said.

The action initiated on the order of the monitoring committee appointed by the Supreme Court, the official said.

The building department of the municipal corporations had started sealing business establishments for a number of reasons including for non-payment of conversion charges, encroachment and illegal construction on the instructions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee. Thousands of shops have been sealed since last December and there is still no sigh of relief amid all the alleged efforts put up by all concerned stakeholders.

In March 2006, the Supreme Court had ordered the sealing of all unauthorised construction and also appointed a Monitoring Committee to conduct the sealing drive under its supervision. It was further revised on December 15, 2017 with three members - comprising former adviser to the Election Commission KJ Rao, chairman of Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority (EPCA) Bhure lal and Major General (retd) Som Jhingan of the team.
