South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Commissioner Dr Puneet Kumar Goel presented a cheque amounting to Rs 3.20 crore to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday. The amount has been raised by the SDMC to help the flood-affected people of Kerala and it will go to the Prime Minister National Relief Fund.
The 43,000 employees of the SDMC contributed with their one-day basic salary for the flood affected persons of Kerala, said Director of Press and Information Radha Krishan.
South Delhi Mayor Narendra Chawla said that the contribution is a humble humane help. “It was much needed keeping in view the large-scale loss of lives and properties in the devastating floods which not only destroyed the economy of the State but forced the citizens to put up in open after losing their houses,” he said.
Appreciating the decision of the employees of the SDMC to contribute for a noble cause, Chawla said the civic body will continue to render humanitarian help to the disaster-affected persons in any other part of the country. Last time the SDMC employees had contributed an amount of around Rs 2 crore for relief measures of flash flood-affected persons in Jammu & Kashmir.
The SDMC had earlier passed a resolution exhorting its employees to donate their one-day salary in the PM National Relief Fund.
The Commissioner was accompanied by three Additional Commissioners Randhir Sahay, Rahul Garg, Umesh Tyagi, leader of House Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Director of Press and Information Radha Krishan.
