SDMC dedicates community centre to slain Inspector Mohan Sharma

In a tribute to slain Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has named a community centre in Dwarka Sector-12 after the officer who lost his life an anti-terrorist operation at Batla House in September 2008. The fully air-conditioned community centre was inaugurated for public by Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Wednesday. The family of MC Sharma was also present on the occasion.

Goel said, "Dwarka, being the largest group co-operative housing township in Asia, has been facing neglect of the Government. However, SDMC has started a slew of development works. He alleged that these group housing societies pay the highest rates for electricity bills for streetlights and common area lights while in other areas the Government itself foots the bill. Even for the booster pumps in the multi-storey buildings, the CGHS society pays five to six times the normal rate.

"The SDMC has no right to levy house tax from this society since it uses its own funds to maintain its parks and common areas. Further, the councillors of SDMC are not allowed to use their lADS funds here," Goel said and appealed to the lG to allow elected public representatives to use their lADS funds in these areas.
