In an effort to provide substantial relief to the residential property tax assessee in unauthorised colonies along with urbanised villages and rural villages, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to implement an amnesty scheme. The scheme will remain operative till January 31, 2018.

SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said under this scheme, property holders in unauthorised colonies will become entitled for 100 per cent remission of the amount relating to interest and penalty on making payment by January 312, 2018 of the amount due on property tax.

She said the scheme will include the owners of all those properties, who have not submitted tax return from April 1 2004, or not submitted return on regular basis or the owners whose assessment has not been done from 2004 and ahead. “Further all residential properties in unauthorised colonies where the matter is pending before MTT or courts will also get benefit under the scheme,” she said.

Standing Committee Chairman Bhupender Gupta said the owners will have to make a declaration about the period of liability of tax which will be accepted by the department. “The scheme is meant to provide relief to the maximum number of property owners and to extend to tax net of the corporation,” he added.
